Request Now: Actinium-225 Request Form Now Open for the 2027 Supply Term

The Department of Energy’s Office of Isotope R&D and Production (IRP) is committed to advancing a reliable, secure, and innovative domestic supply of critical isotopes to support U.S. needs across medicine, national security, industry, and research. As commercial actinium-225 (Ac‑225) production continues to expand, IRP is evaluating the appropriate level of federal production for 2027 and beyond.

With multiple companies entering the market and industry capacity increasing, it is essential for IRP to understand which customers are fully meeting their Ac‑225 needs through commercial suppliers and which still rely on IRP to fill critical gaps. This information is crucial in determining how much Ac‑225 IRP should produce and informing future decisions on whether and when the federal program should begin scaling back production as industry capability grows.

Customers with unmet Ac‑225 needs are invited to submit a request using the online form. Submitting a request indicates firm interest in purchasing thorium‑229‑derived Ac‑225 for the upcoming supply term: January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2027.

The deadline for submission is October 15, 2026.

Through this process, IRP continues to strengthen the U.S. isotope ecosystem — stabilizing markets, reinforcing domestic independence, and supporting the nation’s leadership in isotope production and innovation.
