Available Now: Berkelium-249
We are pleased to announce that a small quantity (~ 0.3 mg) of rare berkelium-249 (Bk-249) is currently available through the DOE Isotope Program. We anticipate an additional batch of the isotope (< 16 mg) to be ready for distribution in May 2021. This isotope is of particular interest in heavy-element chemistry and nuclear physics research.
Berkelium-249 is produced in the High Flux Isotope Reactor and is recovered and purified in the Radiochemical Engineering Development Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
